Kindergarten Program

Play and creativity are at the heart of our early childhood Kindergarten Program. Children learn best through activities they enjoy. This is why we foster a positive environment and encourage a child’s sense of curiosity and wonder.

Our Educational Program also enhances a child’s learning and development by nurturing their life skills, and is designed to complement child’s experiences, opportunities and relationships at school, home and in the community.

Learning experiences at City Stars Kindergarten are interesting, inviting and challenging. They allow the children to build on existing knowledge and discover new learning, with a particular focus on maximising early literacy and numeracy development.

Families have the option of enrolling in our Full-Time or Part-Time Kindergarten Program.

Full-Time – Monday to Friday, 8:15am – 3:00pm

Part-Time – 5 days per fortnight, 8:15am – 3:00pm

Both options run during the Caloundra City Private School Term Time.

We believe this school-based Kindergarten program environment is one where children will be:

  • Actively involved and engaged in their learning through a play-based curriculum.
  • Offered a variety of concrete experiences and challenges they can explore and discover.
  • Able to feel happy, safe, secure and accepted.
  • Able to work independently and as a part of a team with children and adults.
  • Able to discover the pleasure of learning and have fun in the process.
  • Involved in developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Free to express themselves and their needs.
  • Respected and valued.

In Kindergarten we often react to spontaneous learning activities that are relevant to the child, however, we are guided overall by the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines (PDF). In this way, the whole child is nurtured and provided with opportunities to develop academically, physically, socially, and emotionally.

The pre-prep program’s purpose is to ensure a smooth transition into Prep at our school. The city stars’ children attend school assemblies, weekly library trips, Japanese lessons, and sports activities in our state-of-the-art multipurpose hall – all to help your children feel comfortable and ready to start school. Our pupils also compete in cross-country and athletic events on our school grounds. Our school buddy program begins here at City Stars with year 3 students visiting on a weekly basis to establish ties that will last throughout the school year, and make their transition to primary school much easier.
